And they’ll tell you this combination equals more money in your back pocket every single week.
It looks like a pretty good opportunity, doesn’t it? More customers. Less competitors. That’s what George and I thought. However, there are 4 more critical questions which need to be answered before investing time and energy in this new market:

| Critical Question # 1:
How many smokers are there in Australia? Is there enough to build a solid business around? And will I have too much competition once this program takes off?
After all, there’s no sense investing in something people are hungry to buy if there’s only a limited number of people willing to invest in it. Right?
Well, here’s the figures…
- Retail figures compiled by market research company AC Nielsen reveal more than $3.5 billion of cigarettes were sold in supermarkets last financial year – a 7.1 per cent increase on the previous year – while the total numbers of cigarettes sold jumped 2.7 percent to 10.392 billion cigarettes.
- 3.5 million Australians continue to be regular smokers (Sydney Morning Herald, January 23rd, 2005) and over 63% want to Quit.
Now, I just did a quick search on Australia’s population. And based on the Australian Bureau of Statistics Population Clock:
On 28 August 2006 at 10:57:51 (Canberra time), the resident population of Australia is projected to be:

| This means that approximately 17% of the population (just divide 3.5 million by 20.6 million) is a regular smoker. That’s more than 1 in 6 people who are your target market. And I think it would be fair to say that nearly everyone knows someone who smokes. |

| Critical Question # 2:
Will smokers pay good money in order to ‘kick the habit’
It’s one thing to have something a good percentage of the population needs. It’s a completely different thing to have something they want and are willing to pay for.
Think about this for a moment. You and I would agree that everyone can benefit from an NLP or Hypnosis session. And if they invest a few hundred dollars on it, then they’ll be able to eliminate the blocks which hold them back.
But if they won’t pay for it then it’s an uphill battle, isn’t it?
Let me tell you why this program is different…
- Australian smokers spend between $5,000 and $8,000 or more per year on cigarettes (and that’s conservative, not even taking into consideration the extra costs related to illness)
