QC Inner Circle Newsletter – February 2011
Love was in the air this Valentine’s Day… On February 14th Team QC celebrated with some YUMMY treats!

A Chocolate Toblerone Bouquet
Valentine’s Day isn’t just about chocolates (Hint: BUT they are always appreciated.)
Valentine’s Day is traditionally the day where people celebrate being in love by showering their “other half” with gifts.
For people who haven’t been struck by cupid’s arrow YET February 14th is the day they celebrate the other relationships in their lives by catching up with family, friends and colleagues.
In saying that it is important to remember what Valentine’s Day is all about…
The first thing to remember is that, it’s not JUST our romantic relationships that are important…
…all of the relationships in your life play a vital role.
When you think about it, everything you want to accomplish in life requires relationships with others. And relationships are what add joy, colour and richness to your life.
So take some time to appreciate your relationships with all of your loved ones. The following simple suggestions will help you to develop and maintain wonderful relationships.
Be a good listener
Remember that we have one mouth but two ears for a reason– make sure that while you are listening you do just that – you really listen.
Respect the other person’s model of the world
You don’t have to accept it, but you have to respect it. You just have to respect the fact that it’s there.
Keep in touch
Given our hectic schedules it’s easy to lose touch with our friends and family for long stretches of time. It’s important to nourish our relationships… it can be as simple as making a one-minute phone call or sending a text message to ask how someone’s day is going or to tell them you are thinking of them. The smallest gestures can mean a lot!
To be right or happy? That is the question
Have you ever found yourself in a “you’re-wrong-I’m-right” conundrum with a loved one … I’m sure that afterwards when you were making up you both realised how pointless the argument was in the first place.
Decide that you will both be conscious not to have these silly squabbles in the first place! When “very important issues” come up like when somebody forgets to take the rubbish out or buy the milk don’t let your sense of perspective fly out the window. Don’t sweat the small stuff … and it’s all small stuff
Leave the mindreading to clairvoyants
The meaning of your communication is the response you get. Take responsibility for the effects of your communication and remember it is not enough to MEAN well when communicating with your loved ones – people can only respond to what and how you communicate.
Husband: “What’s wrong?”
Wife: “Nothing, I’m fine!”
I can’t think of two words that men must dread more than the words “I’m fine.” The wife in this scenario has a few things that she would like to get off her chest but instead of airing her issues she expects her husband to be a mind reader! It is important to figure out the most effective way of getting your message across to the person with whom you are communicating. Your message has to be tailored to suit the other person’s thinking style and their mood at that particular point in time.

Behavioural flexibility or the law of requisite variety is the ability to vary one’s approach in order to achieve a desired outcome, as opposed to one, habitual, limiting response. The person or system with the most flexibility will ultimately control/win the situation. i.e. if a young child has a tantrum in a store the mother of the child could also have a tantrum which will ultimately achieve the desired outcome – to stop the child misbehaving
“Goodbye,” said the fox. “And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
“What is essential is invisible to the eye,” the little prince repeated, so that he would be sure to remember.
“It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.”
“It is the time I have wasted for my rose–” said the little prince, so that he would be sure to remember.
“Men have forgotten this truth,” said the fox. “But you must not forget it. You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. You are responsible for your rose . . .”

While Mark was shopping for pet supplies, one of the salespeople he knew came running up to him. “Mark! Mark! I just saw someone driving off with your BMW!” “Dear God! Did your try to stop him?” “No,” said the clerk, “but don’t worry. I got the license plate number!”
